 teele made history in 2003 as the first African American elected to statew
 ide office in Maryland when he was elected Lieutenant Governor\, and again
  in 2009 when he was named chairman of the Republican National Committee.\
 n\nA self-described “Lincoln Republican\,” Steele was charged with rev
 italizing the GOP. Under his leadership the RNC broke fundraising records 
 and Republicans won 63 House seats\, the biggest pickup since 1938.\n\nAs 
 Lieutenant Governor of Maryland\, his priorities included reforming the st
 ate's Minority Business Enterprise program\, improving the quality of Mary
 land's public education system\, expanding economic development and foster
 ing cooperation between government and faith-based organizations to help t
 hose in need.\n\nSteele’s ability as a communicator and commentator has 
 been showcased through his role as a political analyst and co-host of The 
 Weekend on MSNBC. His writings on law\, business and politics have appeare
 d in The Wall Street Journal\, The Hill\, Politico\, The Root\, BET\, The 
 Journal of International Security Affairs and Catholic University Law Revi
 ew\, among others.\n\nA graduate of Johns Hopkins University and Georgetow
 n Law Center\, he currently serves as Holder of the Chair for the Gwendoly
 n S. &amp\; Colbert L. King Endowed Chair in Public Policy at Howard Unive
 rsity.
